Did you know that you could be consuming a credit card’s worth of plastic every week without even knowing it? It may sound crazy but if you are using a plastic cutting board it’s not that hard to believe. Don’t believe me? Go grab a plastic cutting board from your kitchen and scrape it with a knife. I guarantee you’ll be shocked by how much plastic comes off of the cutting board!

That plastic ends up in your food which goes into your body and can impact your health. The worst type of plastics are called microplastics and they’re about the size of a sesame seed. These little pieces are so small that you often can’t see them with your eyes, but they’re everywhere, floating in oceans, rivers, and even in the air!

Microplastics are bad for our health for a variety of reasons, but one reason is because microplastics can carry harmful chemicals, including those added during the manufacturing process. When ingested, these chemicals may leach into your body, potentially leading to health issues such as hormone disruption.

So what should you do to limit your exposure to microplastics? One easy switch to make is ditching any plastic cutting boards you have and replacing them with a wood cutting board. Not just any wood cutting board though, some use toxic glue to hold the cutting board together. You want to look for 100% solid wood cutting boards. I left a few of my favorite brands below plus some honorable mentions!
