💰 Money Saving Shopping Tips
First off, if you buy every new supplement and protein powder on the market then yes, it’s going to be very expensive. It’s important to view all supplements as simply that, supplements to a well balanced nutrition plan.
Now, let’s talk about some practical tips to help you save money!
Tip #1: Buy Nutrient Dense Foods
Nutrient dense foods like eggs, meat, chicken, white rice, frozen veggies, and fruits (bananas) are relatively inexpensive. This should be where you’re spending the majority of your budget. Plus these foods are going to fill you up more and you won’t be craving snacks throughout the day!
Tip #2: Shop the Outside of the Aisles
When you walk in to the grocery store, you should immediately start by shopping around the outside of the store. Load up on your fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy and eggs. This should be 80% of your budget. Then, with your remaining budget, you can buy the ‘better-for-you’ processed foods.
Tip #3: Shop the Sales
Grocery stores are constantly running sales on common products. Identify what you need and determine when your local grocery store is running a sale on that product (pro tip: I do a lot of this work for you! I’m constantly posting what sales are running on my Instagram account).
Tip #4: Shop Local
One of the best things you can do not only for your wallet, but also for your community is to shop local. Go to your local farmer’s market and compare prices to what what you see in the grocery store. I suspect there are at least a few grocery staples that are less expensive at the farmer’s market!
Tip #5: Shop Seasonal and Buy in Bulk
It’s also important to identify what’s in season because usually, that means those products will be cheaper! If berries aren’t in season, you can bet they’re going to be more expensive because supply is lower.
On top of that, you can save a lot of money buy shopping in bulk. Especially for pantry staples. I love loading up at Costco!
