Consuming electrolytes is one of the fastest ways to boost your energy levels. The problem is that 8 out of 10 electrolyte brands are actually doing more harm than good.
Let’s start with the basics, what are electrolytes? Simply put, electrolytes are like little helpers that make sure your body works properly and keeps you feeling healthy and energetic. More specifically, electrolytes are tiny charged particles in your body that help with hydration, muscle function, nerve signaling, and maintaining the right balance of fluids and acids. Translation, they’re important.
If you’re like me, the next question you are asking yourself is “Where do I get electrolytes from?” Well, I’m glad you asked! This is one of those good news, bad news situations. Let’s start with the good news. The good news is, there are electrolytes in foods you are already eating like bananas, oranges, and avocados. The bad news is, you are probably not consuming enough electrolytes through food alone.
That’s where electrolyte supplements come in to play! Unfortunately, most electrolyte supplements are made with artificial sweeteners, low quality minerals, and artificial flavors. All things we want to avoid. Instead, we want to look for products with high quality minerals, unrefined salt, no natural flavors, and stevia for sweetness.
I’ve gone through as many electrolyte brands as I can and narrowed it down to the 5 best electrolyte brands based on the criteria above.
Table of Contents
The Five Best Electrolyte Brands
1. LMNT
You may have seen this brand advertised by popular YouTuber Andrew Huberman. There’s a good reason why this is his top recommended choice: LMNT uses high quality minerals (magnesium and potassium) and stevia for sweetness (no artificial sweeteners). However, two reasons why this isn’t my personal favorite brand is because they use natural flavors in their flavored packets and table salt instead of unrefined salt. They do sell an unflavored packet without natural flavors which I like to see, but I know we can find one that meets all of our criteria (hint: keep scrolling and you’ll find out).
2. Redmond’s Re-Lyte
Salt is a natural electrolyte so it’s no surprise to see one of my favorite salt brands create their own electrolyte mix. I love Re-Lyte because they use unrefined salt (just like with their salt product) and high quality minerals like potassium, magnesium, and calcium. Once again, we find ourselves in a similar spot to LMNT in that Redmond’s uses natural flavors in their flavored packets, but they do have an unflavored version with no natural flavors.
3. Santa Cruz Paleo
This is a newer one for me, but as I was doing research on electrolytes, this one caught my attention. Santa Cruz Paleo is known for their pre-workout powder but their electrolyte mix is one of the best. They use high quality minerals like magnesium and potassium, Himalayan sea salt, and stevia for sweetness. Not surprisingly, they do use natural flavors but overall, I like what I see.
4. FlavCity
You’ve been waiting for it, could this be the one with no natural flavors?…It is! Flavcity is my go to electrolyte brand for 4 reasons: (1) they use high quality minerals like magnesium and potassium, (2) they use unrefined salt, (3) they use stevia for sweetness and (4) NO natural flavors! This brand meets all of the criteria we outlined above. It’s the best electrolyte brand that I have found and it’s what I consume on a daily basis!
5. Just Ingredients (Code CLEANKITCHEN for 10% Off)
Just Ingredients is another one of my absolute favorite brands of electrolytes! They use high quality minerals like potassium, magnesium, sodium, and calcium. Plus, they don’t use any natural or artificial flavors and instead use natural sweeteners like stevia and monkfruit. If you want to test out Just Ingredients, I have a code for 10% (CLEANKITCHEN)!
Adding electrolytes to your normal routine is one of the most efficient ways to boost energy levels. If you are looking for a cheap way to get started, start with simply adding a pinch of salt to your glass of water. Sometimes it doesn’t have to be complicated!
Using Dr Berg now but Redmonds probably my favorite
How do you like Dr Berg?
Ok cool I use LMNT and I like it but very overpowering and high sodium. I am going to try the last brand you mentioned.
Let me know what you think!
I do like the FlavCity ones however i find it hard to dissolve and most of the time remains clumpy unless aggressively shaken for 8 minutes haha
Haha I definitely have had that issue too. I use a handheld frother and that does the trick!
Flav city
A great option!
