Chances are, you or someone you know has been sick recently. A new strain of the flu is going around and knocking people out for a few days. Just in the last week, my mom, brother, sister-in-law, and nephew all got sick.

Here’s 4 things I do as soon as soon as I feel I’m getting sick:

1. Hydration

When you’re sick, your body needs extra fluids to flush out toxins and keep your immune system functioning at its best.

Dehydration can make symptoms like headaches and fatigue worse, so be sure to drink plenty of water, herbal teas, and coconut water for natural electrolytes.

Adding a pinch of sea salt to your water can also help replenish minerals and improve absorption.

2. Rest

Your body does its best healing while you sleep.

When you’re fighting off an illness, prioritizing rest allows your immune system to work efficiently, reducing the duration and severity of symptoms.

Instead of pushing through your normal routine, give yourself permission to slow down—nap when needed, go to bed earlier, and let your body recover.

3. Bone Broth

Bone broth is packed with essential nutrients like collagen, amino acids, and minerals that help repair the gut lining, reduce inflammation, and support immunity.

The warm, nourishing broth also soothes a sore throat and keeps you hydrated. For an extra boost, add fresh garlic, ginger, or turmeric for their antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory benefits.

4. Fresh Air

My favorite remedy…Getting outside, even for just a few minutes, can help clear your lungs, improve circulation, and boost mood.

Fresh air provides oxygen that helps your body fight off infection, while exposure to natural sunlight supports vitamin D production, which plays a key role in immune function.

If you’re not up for a walk, simply opening a window for better air circulation can help.
